Bonus Post: He-Looker, Now With Less Yokel

The fellow I drew wearing a male version of Looker's costume came out a bit too "Woody from 'Cheers'" but I figured he'd do. Inspired by some comments in that post, I played around with the face, making it less lean and long and making the eyes look more "Yeah, you know you want me" and less "Y'know, I could really go for some mashed puh-taters." But now he seems kind of insane. I dunno. What do you think? Oh, and I finally decided on a name for him. (Thanks for the suggestions, guys!)

Presenting: Adonis!

Nice! The reshaped eyeholes give him a bit of an implied raised eyebrow. Looks good! A little insane, but you'd have to be at least a little insane to dress like that in the first place, doncha think?

Ah yes. It's subtle (it took me awhile to see a difference), but he looks a bit more "knowing" and not so guileless now, without losing the friendly overtone.

Something else: His smile looks more like it's reaching his eyes now, if you know what I mean.

If eyes and a mouth look like they're operating independently, a supposedly "happy" face can end up looking unsettling instead.

(As they say on MST3K: "'Don't let the smile reach your eyes'--that's John Agar's motto...")

Not that he looked creepy before, just--Woody from Cheers.

Um, I want to say this delicately. I like the mask and everything, but his codpiece is a little....prominent. Maybe it could be just a tad, um, less eye-catching?

I'm gratified y'all like it! Chawunky, loved the John Agar reference. MST3K always knew how to tear Agar a new one. For example:

John Agar, laughing "spontaneously" in "Revenge of the Creature" : Ha ha ha ha!
Mike: The script said "Ha ha ha ha."

Verity, I want to say this delicately... he's not wearing a codpiece. But in all seriousness, I've come to realize I have a tendency to draw sizable packages on my male figures. I was actually trying to tone it down with ol' Adonis here. In fact, I was afraid I might have made him too small. I guess I have a ways to go. Thanks, sincerely, for pointing it out.

Well, if nothing else, his groin conforms to the aesthetic standards of the ancient Greeks.
And at least you realize that men have a package to draw. You gotta love how mainstream male superheroes' costumes look spraypainted on--except in one place, where it looks like they're wearing two jockstraps and a dance belt.

You caught the reference! I liked their riff on then-extra Clint Eastwood in there too. MST3K rocks the house.

Hmm. Above, replace "realize" with "don't shy from the fact"--I doubt the average comics artist is inadvertently not drawing men's junk.

Heh. Ok, yeah, upon further review, not a codpiece, obviously. Is it safe for male superheroes to have their business hanging out in the open like that, though? A supervillain could show up and just shear it off with a laser or something. Even a minion.....Random Stupid Henchman #87 could smash his business! How humiliating would that be? I think wearing an athletic cup is a requirement for joining the JLA, for example..have to check the regs....

When you have Cajones of Steel, you take do NOT wear a cup.

In fact, you take as many shots to the boys as possible, just to prove you can take it.

Batman's cup, on the other hand, is made by the same designer as his belt. Make of that what you will.

Verity: Like Looker, Adonis can create force fields with his mind so I think he'll be okay. Still, your post inspired my "boys" to retreat up into my stomach cavity, so good job! ("Shear it off?" YIKES!)

Steven: Haw! I like the idea of Adonis protecting his junk with a forcefield and then goading Batman into kicking him there. Repeatedly. "That all you got, candy ass? C'mon! Again! AGAIN!!!" (At which point Batman would just cold-cock the sumbitch and be done with it.)

He looks like he should date Cosmic Boy, with whom he would look FABULOUS.

Heh. And their favorite movie would be "Pretty In Pink."
